Mechanical design engineer

Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, the Mechanical Design Engineer studies, designs and develops automated recovery equipment for our TOMRA Technologie division. He/she mainly performs tasks related to the evaluation, design, testing and launch of new recovery systems, while providing technical support to the mechanical assembly and service teams. He/she supports improvement projects, while providing technical support to the service team. 

Monday to Friday / Located in Baie-d'Urfé / 37.5 hours per week / Starting at $90,000 per year, depending on experience / Hybrid

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automated recovery systems for the TOMRA Technologie division, ensuring their performance and reliability;
  • Plan and direct design projects, including cost estimates, specifications, reports and contract documents;
  • Evaluate and improve the performance of mechanical systems, in particular by analyzing dynamics, vibrations and causes of failure;
  • Support product launches and installation follow-up, providing technical support in the field;
  • Carry out technical research and negotiate with suppliers to define specifications and validate the feasibility of components;
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistency, efficiency and quality of projects;
  • Ensure innovation and market knowledge, by generating innovative ideas, protecting intellectual property and listening to customer needs.

Requirements

  • University degree in mechanical engineering ;
  • Minimum of 8 years of design experience in an industrial environment; 
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) ;
  • Demonstrates a creative and artistic spirit; 
  • Natural curiosity and a keen interest in exploring new approaches to design; 
  • Practical experience in the field, with a good understanding of operational and manufacturing realities; 
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary and international teams; 
  • Attention to detail and ergonomics in the design of end-user products;
  • Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written (to facilitate effective communication with international engineering teams);
  • Autonomy, organization and team spirit, with the ability to handle pressure well;
  • Flexibility to travel occasionally in Quebec.
